JONESWORKS is a full-service marketing, public relations, and brand consultancy agency, representing an elite roster of entertainment, talent, sports, fashion, lifestyle and consumer brands.The agency is currently seeking a CONTROLLER to join our fast growing New York based team. This team member will report directly to the President. This is a hands-on role with high exposure across the company. The Controller will be responsible for General Accounting, Financial Reporting, Payroll and Contract matters.

Position Overview:

This position will report directly to the President and CEO and will manage all finances. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of standard accounting metrics such as forecasting, invoicing, overhead rate, and budgeting. This person will manage all invoicing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and manage all client accounting correspondence. In addition, the Assistant Controller will prepare reports for the President to track cash flow and ongoing budgeting. He or she will ensure that all company accounting processes and systems are compliant. 

Job Description:

  • Responsible for managing all accounting and finance functions including month-end close, financial reports, budgeting & forecasting
  • Oversee day-to-day processing of accounts receivable and accounts payable and working closely with agency’s business mangers
  • Preparation of financial statements including budgets and forecasts
  • Perform month-end close activities including journal entries, supporting schedules, and general ledger maintenance
  • Bank and credit card balance sheet reconciliations 
  • Perform monthly client invoicing procedures including contract management 
  • Responsible for cost control and expense allocation 
  • Payroll processing and HR matters
  • Oversee company benefits, insurance, 1099 processing, and other taxes 
  • Correspond and work closely with CEO and business manager regarding business and HR issues
  • Implementation and management of company procedures, policies, and payroll
  • Correspondence and coordination with Tax Accountant for CEO and company
  • Ad-hoc reports 


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or Business management 
  • 5+ years of experience as Senior Accountant/ Controller 
  • Experience at a PR/ Marketing Agency preferred
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices, banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data 
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel), & Apple Computer systems
  • Ability to produce reports/graphs/charts/tables in Word, Excel and/or PowerPoint
  • Experience with Expensify and ADP TotalSource a PLUS
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Strong organizational skills along with effective time management and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Special projects and/or project management experience beneficial
  • Customer focused; team oriented; high integrity and honesty
  • Self-starter, able to work with minimal direction or supervision
